You can't run a trucking company without the necessary permissions. They make sure you're following the rules so you may ship something without getting in trouble. You can't legally drive a commercial truck without one of these permits as evidence.

MCP

Drivers who transport property, operate large commercial vehicles, transport hazardous materials, or operate vehicles requiring a commercial driver's license need a motor carrier permit (MCP) as evidence they have registered their California Carrier Identification number (CA#) with DMV.

UCR

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Program is an important requirement for businesses operating commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce. It ensures compliance with safety regulations, provides funding for state safety programs, and simplifies the registration process for motor carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, and leasing companies. Registering for UCR and maintaining compliance is essential to avoid penalties and ensure smooth operations across state lines.

Employer Pull Notice

The Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program, also known simply as a "pull notice," is a program administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in various states, such as California. It is a valuable tool for employers to monitor and manage the driving records of their employees. It enhances safety, ensures regulatory compliance, and reduces risk by providing timely information about drivers' records.

FAQ's

The motor carrier–or MC—is for national interstate truck drivers. The motor carrier permit (MCP) provides proof of a motor carrier's California number for legally operating on the highways of California. A motor carrier permit verifies that this motor carrier is in compliance with all requirements.

If the motor carrier is a corporation, partnership, or LLC and vehicles in the motor carrier fleet require commercially licensed drivers, you must enroll in the EPN program. The EPN requester code number must be provided on the application for an MCP.

Most interstate carriers are required to register and pay fees annually under the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement before operating. This is done by filing a UCR application with the state your company is based in. If your company is based in a non-UCR state, you'll need to file with a neighboring state.
